Hazard Communication Training (29 CFR 1910.1200) - offered by Chemical Distributors, Incorporated
The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard is designed to protect employees from hazardous chemicals used or stored in the work setting.
Also referred to as Right To Know, it requires that training and information be provided to any employees who have the potential of being
exposed to a hazardous chemical "under normal condition of use or in a forseeable emergency."
HazCom training requires the presence of hazardous chemicals be communicated to employees in a variety of ways, including:
- The hazardous chemical inventory
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Labels, tags or signs
- The written hazard communication program
As the standard's title suggests, the employer is responsible for communicating the hazards associated with the handling and use
of chemicals used in the workplace. This means:
- The employer is responsible for employees to know the location of the written hazard communication program,
including the required list of hazardous chemicals and safety data sheets (SDS).
- The employer is responsible to make employees aware of the observation methods that may be used to detect the presence
or release of a hazardous chemical used in their workplace.
- The employer is also responsible for communicating any physical and health hazards associated with the chemicals used in
their workplace, means of protection such as required PPE, work practices or engineering controls, and the labeling system used
for the identification of chemical containers.
Training is site specific and involves the chemical and physical properties and hazards of all on-site chemicals, how to read labels and
SDSs, and how employees can protect themselves from hazards through knowledge and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

About our trainer:
Cindy Shelton is a certified Associate Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, as well as a Registered Environmental Professional through the National Registry of Environmental Professionals. She is also an authorized trainer for OSHA 10 and 30 hour Training in General Industry. In addition, she holds a Master’s degree from Columbia Southern University in Occupational Safety and Health with a concentration in Environmental Management.
